Where texture, nostalgia and sour are currently outrunning new flavor profiles.
What are the current candy flavor trends?
Growth is coming from texture, not new flavors. Freeze-dried, filled and layered products sell on how they feel — the flavors themselves are decades old.
Candy moves faster than any other category, because a limited edition is cheap to make and the feedback is immediate. That makes it the best early warning you have for where sweet flavors are going generally.
Four things are driving it.
Texture is beating flavor. Freeze-dried is the obvious one, but the pattern is wider — filled centers, layers, crunchy-then-chewy. The flavors carrying these launches are decades old. The novelty is how they feel.
Childhood flavors are moving into adult products. Blue raspberry, cotton candy and cereal-milk are growing fastest in pre-workout, energy drinks and hard seltzer, not in children's sweets where they have been steady for years.
Sour has become the default, not the variant. In several parts of the aisle the sour version is now the main product and the non-sour one is the line extension.
Chili is crossing over. It has moved out of chocolate into gummies and hard candy, with mango chili and tajin-style flavors leading.
